Arthur (Art) Frank Temmesfeld

June 11, 1942 to December 20, 2023

Art Temmesfeld (81) passed away on December 20, 2023, at Ohio's Hospice of Dayton following a short illness.

Art was born June 11, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Arthur Max and Florence Janke Temmesfeld. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Lawrence Temmesfeld; his brother, James M. Temmesfeld of Golden Valley, Arizona; and his children: Laura Menchen of Franklin, Ohio; Daniel (Audrey) Temmesfeld of Eugene Oregon; David (Alicia) Temmesfeld of Liberty Township, Ohio; and Stephen (Rachel) Temmesfeld of Cincinnati, Ohio. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Matthew Menchen, Christine Yepez, Ezra Menchen, Alexis Temmesfeld, Amelia Temmesfeld, Eva Temmesfeld, Alec Temmesfeld, Rae Temmesfeld, and two great-grandsons: Jacob Yepez, Jr. and Jackson Yepez.

As a child, Art lived in Raleigh, North Carolina; Oaklawn, Illinois; and Pasadena, California, all locations necessary because of his dad's work for Dolly Madison Bakery. In college, he joined the ROTC, which ultimately led him into the United States Air Force. He also enjoyed singing in a Catholic church choir and performed in several Gilbert and Sullivan operas while in college. He came to know Jesus as his personal Savior in 1965 through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ on the UCLA campus and was discipled by Hal Lindsey.

After college, he entered the Air Force and was stationed at Patrick Air Force Base, working at Cape Canaveral on the Minuteman II and III programs. He met Barb in 1967 and they were married July 5, 1969 ("un-independence Day" was found written on his calendar after the honeymoon).

He left the Air Force in 1970 to enter Dallas Theological Seminary, where he received his Master of Theology Degree in 1974. Laura was born two months later. Art took his small family to Igbaja, Nigeria, where he was a professor at Igbaja Theological Seminary for two years. Dan was born in Jos, Nigeria in 1976. In 1978, they were transferred to Lagos, Nigeria to set up an extension seminary. The family returned to the states in 1979 and in 1980 David joined the family followed by Stephen in 1982. From 1979 thru 1985, he held several short-term jobs, including construction work with his cousin, working at Texas Instruments, Associate Pastor in San Bernardino, California, and as an auto mechanic, before finally returning to civilian service for the United States Air Force in 1985 as a senior manufacturing engineer at the Ballistic Missile Office at Norton AFB. In 1991, Art accepted a position with the Air Force Research Lab Materials and Manufacturing Directorate at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He enjoyed his work and retired in 2014.

From 1991 to the present, he has served the Lord at Patterson Park Church in Beavercreek, Ohio, serving as Sunday school teacher, Bible study leader, small group leader, Deacon, missions committee member, and as an Elder. He loved studying the Word of God, and he loved teaching it.

A memorial service will be held at Patterson Park Church, 3655 E. Patterson Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio on Friday, December 29, at 5:00 p.m., preceded by visitation from 3 to 5 p.m.

Interment will be Wednesday, January 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45428.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. Mail check to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420 or give online at Ohioshospice.org.
