Andy Andrews
Age 75, of Dayton, went home to be with the Lord Monday, November 10, 2008, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born January 12, 1933 in Jackson, Ohio to Arthur & Golda (Cantor) Andrews. In addition to his parents, Art was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Stephens & Rosalie Brumley.
Andy is survived by his wife of the past 48 years, Carol J. (Garland) Andrews; five children, Brenda & her husband, Vincent Slaughter, Dana & his wife, Debbi Andrews, Rhonda & her husband, Larry Keele, Jodi Callahan & Barry MacFarland and Deborah Andrews. He was "Poppi" to ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill & his wife, Evelyn Smith and Perry Andrews; one sister, Peg Wells & her husband, Fred; and by his extended family and many good friends.
Andy was a 20-year member of Brantwood Baptist Church. He and his wife, Carol were singers with the gospel groups Ambassadors for Christ & The Gospel Gang where they ministered in music at local churches, nursing homes and flea markets. He was also involved in local food ministries. He retired from NCR in 1975 and then from GM in 1989. He went on to work at Tires Unlimited as their official "Go-Fer."
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, at Brantwood Baptist Church, 2400 Albrecht Ave @ Mentor Ave, Dayton. Pastors Tom Bowman and Pete Fee will officiate. Friends may also visit at the church from 12:00 Noon until time of service. Interment will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria, Ohio.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses on the Pulmonary Floor at Miami Valley Hospital for the care they provided.
