Arlene May Shepherd, age 84 of Beavercreek, OH, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Kettering Medical Center surrounded by the love of her family. She was born June 20, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Frederick and Vina Cahhal.
Left to cherish Arlene's memory are her daughter, Glenda (Tom) Day; sons: Rob (Debra) Shepherd, Jr., Richard (Lisa) Shepherd; 14 grandchildren: Tom, Melanie (Jeff), Stephanie, Valerie, Rob (Lauren), Rebekah (Kevin), Christopher (Kimberly), Christian, Kyle, Jacob, Kira, Bailee, Kai, and Ania; 7 great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Lily, Thibodaux, Adalida, Evangeline, Skylar, and Amelia; siblings: Harriett, Fred, Belva, Mary, and Madeline, and several other relatives and friends.
Arlene married Robert Shepherd Sr. in Griswold, IA on October 31, 1953. With Robert in the U.S. Air Force, the two of them lived in several locations all over the U.S. and Okinawa for the first twenty years of their marriage. They finally settled in the Dayton area. Arlene received Christ as her personal Savior when she was a young girl. She was a Sunday school teacher for 54 years. Her greatest joy was teaching children about Christ. Arlene was an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Temple in Dayton. She had formerly served as a board member of Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF). She taught Good News Clubs and Five Day Clubs around the Dayton area. Arlene enjoyed cooking, and her children fondly remember her weekly baking day. Holidays were special to Arlene. She enjoyed decorating her home for each of them. After her children were grown, they continued to gather at her home on Saturday nights for dinner and time together as a family. Most of all, Arlene enjoyed spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Arlene is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Shepherd Sr., siblings: Opal, Beatrice, Virgil, and Rose.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432). A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date at Dayton National Cemetery.
