Arbutus "Beauty" Lay, age 82, of New Carlisle, passed away on January 27, 2021. She was born in Wise, Virginia, on August 8, 1938, the daughter of the late Jim Bob Mutter and Goldia Sword.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-fathers, Keenes Bailey and Clarence Sword; daughter, Gwendolyn Cox; grandsons, Brandon Lay and Michael Cox; and great-granddaughter, Sara Hasty.
Beauty is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Donald M. Lay, Sr.; children, Margaret Ann (Neil) Earnest, Donald M. Lay, Jr., Dahle (Pam) Smith, Robin (Chuck) Short, Randy (Georgetta) Lay and Ronnie (Renee) Lay; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, James Mutter and MacArthur Bailey; many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was a founder and member of Valley Street Pentecostal Holiness Church for 35 years, where she also served as Treasurer for 16 years. Beauty's pride and joy were her family and her faith in God. She was a woman who devoted her life to her family and church. Beauty was the backbone of the family. She opened her arms to everyone, never considered anyone a stranger, they were all family to her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021, from 5pm-8pm, at the temporary location of Spaulding Road Church of God, 2141 Harshman Rd., Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at the Church on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 10am, with Rev. Fred Blankenship and Rev. Mitchell Hasty officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
