Annie Ruth Allen

June 14, 1925 — January 7, 2019

Annie Ruth Allen age 93, of Dayton, OH passed away on January 7, 2019 at Hospice of Dayton. Annie was born in Mulberry, TN on June 14, 1925. She was the daughter of Caleb and Lou Ella (Ray) Reese. She was a graduate of West End High School and attended Tennessee State University. She would later marry Charles Lee Allen on March 1st, 1946.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, brothers, Arthur Ingle, Robert Reese, Thomas Reese and James C. Reese; and sisters, Alberta Owens, Alene Ashby, Lucille Newsome, Theola Reese, Irene Dance, Gladys Bailey, and Beatrice Webb.

Annie retired from Veterans Administration after 35 years of service as a certified surgical technician. Because of Annie's outgoing personality and love for people, she worked another 10 years as a gift-wrapper for Elder-Beerman where she was honored as "Employee of The Month" on numerous occasions. She possessed a strong work-ethic and was committed to caring for her only child, Cheryl. Annie was proud of the fact that she was able to own her own home and having "A1 Credit."

Annie was a true believer of God and her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ridgewood Heights. It is here that Annie served on the Missionary and Mothers Board. She was also a member of the Daughter's of Jerusalem, an auxiliary club in Dayton, OH.

In her free time Annie enjoyed working word puzzles and was affectionately known as the "Puzzle-Lady" at Friendship Village where she was a resident for the past 7 years. She also collected elephant figurines of all shapes and sizes, loved scratch-offs, shopping, talking politics and ceramics. Above all, Annie loved spending time with and caring for her grandchildren who lovingly called her "Ban Ban."

Annie is survived by her loving daughter, Cheryl A. Motley (Steven Feagin) of Englewood, Ohio; granddaughters, Whitney C. Motley of Dallas, Texas and Jordyn C. Motley, of Trotwood, Ohio; grandson, Theran C. Motley, Sr. of Phoenix, Arizona; great -grandsons, Theran C. Motley, Jr., Therell K. Motley, and Therence K. Motley; Special Niece and "Bonus Daughter", Jessie R. Waggoner; "Bonus Daughter," Barbara Long and a host of loving nieces and nephews of Fayetteville, TN and dear friends and extended family.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Ridgewood Heights, 116 Hanover Avenue, Dayton. Annie's celebration of life will immediately follow her visitation at the church. After the funeral, Annie's burial is scheduled for 1:45pm at Dayton National Cemetery.
