Anna Margareta Yannekis
Age 80, of Union, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010.
Family tribute: Mom was born in the village of Nittenau in Bavaria, Germany, Oct. 19, 1929. Mom experienced the savages of the war and the loss of her father as a child. In 1946 she met and married her husband of 63 years, Gregory Nicholas Yannekis. Mom joined Dad in Concord, NH and later moved to Ohio, where they spent nearly 50 years in Trotwood and then settled in Union. She loved the US but remained extremely proud of and missed her birth country, and was a longtime member of the Edelweiss Club where she enjoyed her ethnic heritage and loved many friends. Mom was not able to complete her education in Germany but there was no denying her intelligence. She was an avid reader and remarkably talented. She spoke English fluently, learned Greek and was an excellent cook. Mom loved music and loved to dance. Mom understood US politics as well as many US citizens and was always informed on current events in the news. Mom had six children and instilled in each a commitment of self-sufficiency and independence. Mom was preceded in death by her mother, father, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her husband, Greg; children, Jim, Sharon (Cunagin), Ilona, Nick, Penny and Tina (Smith); ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and six nieces and nephews. Mom demonstrated an inner strength and beauty that could only originate from a Mother's love for her family. Anna Margareta Pilz was finally called home to join her Mother, Father, Sister and Brothers on the morning of February 2, 2010. Husband, Greg and children, Jim, Sharon, Ilona, Nick, Penny, Tina and all your Hertzy Betsies love you forever.
