Angela Mae Arnold

November 18, 1934 — January 23, 2025

Dayton, OH

Angela (Angel) Mae Arnold, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, at the Ohio Hospice of Dayton. She was born on November 18, 1934, in Ravenna, Kentucky to loving parents Harry and Ethel (Hunt) Richardson.

As one of ten siblings within the large Richardson family, the five brothers and four sisters shared a close family bond and strong Baptist faith. Angel is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ed, Ronnie, Harry, and sister Norma Lutes. She is survived by brothers Ransom (Ran), Robert (Bob) and sisters, Mary Wells, Midge Neal, and Jane (Charles) Blevins.

As one of the older children, Angel cared for her younger siblings from an early age. Her sewing, canning, and baking talents started early, bringing years of joy to her family. She is renowned for her homemade dinner rolls, famous apple dumplings, and especially her pecan pies. Over the recent holidays, Angel had lovingly been sharing baking tips with her great-granddaughters.

As a child, Angel sang gospel hymns with her sisters at their local Baptist church. Drawing on their love of music, Angel and her sisters Mary and Midge later created a singing group and loved singing at churches and events for several years as The Richardson Sisters.

Angel is preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Wilbert (Pete) Lee Arnold, who, after marrying in 1953, made their home and began their family in the Dayton area. Their epic love story resonated throughout their lives and those of everyone around them. Angel was also preceded by the early death of her only son, Wilbert (Petie) Lee Arnold, Jr.

Angel’s world revolved around her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her loving daughters, Sandra Duncan and Mary Ann Arnold; devoted son-in-law of 45 years, David Duncan, adored grandchildren, Christopher and Courtney Duncan. Angel was a proud great-grandmother to Ava and Aaliyah Smith.

Despite her roles as wife and family matriarch, Angel was also a successful businesswoman, dedicating years to careers as a seamstress, upholsterer, and hair stylist. She was a natural storyteller and prankster who brought energy to every party. Angel enjoyed reading, bingo, the casino, and was a skilled Canasta player. Deeply loved by many friends and family, she will be dearly missed.

Visitation will take place from 1:00-2:00 PM on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where Angel’s memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM.
