Angela "Angie" C. McKee, a beloved figure in her community and a passionate culinary artist, passed away on December 5, 2024, in her hometown of Dayton, Ohio. Born on October 9, 1964, Angie dedicated much of her life to the art of cooking, sharing her love for food through her own restaurant, Wings and a Prayer. Known for her mouthwatering hot chicken wings and delicious Philly cheesesteaks, her culinary talents garnered admiration from many who had the pleasure of dining at her establishment.
Angie was described as a firecracker, known for her sweet nature and candid honesty. She held a deep affection for her grandchildren, cherishing the time spent with them. Her love for music, particularly gospel and R&B, often filled her home with warmth and joy. Angie found great comfort in watching her favorite television series, especially SVU, along with various cooking shows that inspired her culinary creations.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Michael Jones, and their children – Shanice (Stan) Freeman, Kennar McKee-Woods, Michael DuBose, and D'angelo DuBose. Angie's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Londen "Toot" Freeman, Jayden Freeman, Tyler Woods, Trinity Woods, Gianna Woods, D'avery DuBose, Amariah DuBose, Cameron Britt, and Shania Stewart, who will forever remember her vibrant spirit and warmth.
Angie is also survived by her mother, Mertis McKee, her sister, Sheila Harris, as well as her nephews, Branden Jackson and Antoine Jackson. She had a close bond with her dear friend, Betty Freeman, and cherished her friendship with Johnny Lynch. Additionally, her life touched many others, as evidenced by a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Angie was preceded in death by her father, Sherman McKee; her grandfather, George Taylor; her grandmother, Vesta Taylor; and dear friend Rufus Johnson.
The impact of Angie's life and her contributions to both her family and the culinary world will be fondly remembered, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 1-2pm at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. The service will follow at 2pm.
