Gillespie, Andrea Grace Petersen – Died September 5, 2017. She was born January 16, 1941 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Greggors and Nell (Taylor) Petersen. Andrea was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, sister Barbara Huban and brother Robert Petersen, and her sister-in-law Joan (Gillespie) Kayser. Her surviving family includes her sister-in-law, Melba (Bass) Petersen, Dana (Gillispie) Irby and Dona Gillespie, and her husband, Mel. She was married to John M (Mel) Gillespie II for 53 years. Her beloved son Andrew Graham (Kim Sei Yung) was her most precious and treasured gift along with his wife, Jennifer (Flora), and granddaughters, Olivia Grace and Emma Pearl. Andrea had a wide family of "adopted" daughters whom she loved dearly Helen, Lynda, Christa and "God Sister" Bobbie.
Andrea was part of the "Lost Class of 59" at Little Rock Central High School. She was able to complete her college degree at Hendrix College and the University of Little Rock. Andrea served with her Air Force husband thru 11 duty stations teaching high school and college students at various locations. She was the hug lady, and you could not miss getting a hug whether you acknowledged her presence or not. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Dayton. Served as a Deacon, was active in Westminster Presbyterian Women, and took special pleasure preparing communion elements and attending to the Prayer Wall for many years. Andrea loved her five Irish Setters, a very special Llewellyn Setter and numerous other cat and dog kids who wildly greeted her on the Rainbow Bridge.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. She and her family deeply appreciate the medical and care staff at Soin Hospital and Hospice of Dayton. Her wish for you is to go out and hug anybody that just might need a hug.
