Ameen George Saloom, age 87 of Centerville, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022. He was born October 25, 1935 in Bludan, Syria, the son of the late George and Alice Saloom.
Ameen is survived by his children, Nadia Saloom, Joe (Heather) Saloom, and Laurice (Jason) Hodgson; grandchildren, Celena, Ashley, Grace, Faith, Julia, Nicholas, Avery; great grandson, Cason; his sister, Monzar; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Mary Saloom; and his brother, Joseph Saloom.
Ameen immigrated to the United States when he was 14 years old, not knowing a word of English. Through hard work, determination, and initiative, he became a prime example of the American Dream. He is a veteran of the United States Army, where he fought in the Korean War. He then moved on to serve as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, where he was apart of the Foreign Intelligence Division. Upon his military retirement, he was a private investigator and worked with the sheriff's department, until he began working at Mound Laboratories supporting the Department of Energy. After retirement, he began teaching business management part-time at Sinclair Community College.
Ameen will be remembered for being the rock of the family. He was a one-of-a-kind human being that embodied the following traits: humility, strength, wisdom, honesty, and compassion. He always made you feel welcome and had a wicked sense of humor, until the very end. He was unwavering in his love and devotion to his family. The light of his life were his grandchildren. He was their greatest supporter and took special pride in each and every one of them.
He enjoyed classic cars, especially his 1958 Ford Edsel. He also loved to cook breakfast and was famous for his omelettes and pancakes.
Ameen left a positive impact on all who knew him. He was so very loved and will be deeply missed. He'll remain in our hearts and memories forever.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (500 Belmont Park North, Dayton, Ohio 45405). Funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Dayton, OH, with military honors. Reception to follow.
