Amber Michelle Hines

December 10, 1997 — August 29, 2021

Amber (Alyssa) Latice was born in Dayton, OH on December 10, 1997. She was born with Biliary Atresia, which is a congenital terminal liver disease. Although at birth Amber was only given a few months to live, she lived 23 fulfilling years!
Amber was hospitalized over 100 times. Even as a toddler, she knew her body well. Before there were symptoms, she would say that she needed to go to her Doctor's House (hospital).Throughout the years, many Doctors and Nurses were often impressed with her vast medical knowledge and professional articulation. Due to Amber's calm, peaceful, and positive spirit, many caring nurses became her friend.

Amber was always uplifting, compassionate, and sought to motivate and encourage others despite battling her health. Instead of focusing on herself, she always welcomed others to share what was on their minds and hearts. Amber truly had a smile that would brighten up the darkest room, so much so, that most often forgot she was ill.

Amber often said, "I'm my mother's best friend!" and would jokingly insinuate that it was not reciprocal. However, the bond between them was pure and strong. They both had that Silver-Lining Mindset, enjoyed many hours walking along the beach, traveled the nation as extreme couponers and shared the same philosophy: Life Is How You Design It To Be - Don't Leave It Up To Chance - Make it Great!

Amber was also very passionate about animals (she's rescued several cats, dogs and bunnies). She had a fondness for snakes, but wasn't allowed to bring them home!
Her recent goal was to open up a Pet Day Care for as she said, " unlike being a Vetanarian, I don't have to waste time going to school." She loved her spoiled pooch Apollo and was comforted to know he's being lovingly cared for by her Aunt Mattie as she battled with infections the last few months of her life.

She absolutely loved cooking! Her big brother Andre taught her how to cook his famous pancakes at the age of 6! Her love for cooking grew from there. Amber's specialty was creating her own dishes. She would always intrigue her guests by mixing ingredients that didn't appear to go well together, but it always tasted amazing! She also loved cooking Korean meals - although most in her circle didn't truly care for the spicy dishes.

However, Ambers biggest love was fully emerged in the Asian culture. She began learning how to speak and read Japanese at the age of 9. Then, at 12 she began learning and becoming immersed in the Korean Culture. She often traveled to other states to participate in the Japanese Christian Congregations. Anyone who had the privilege of visiting her would be "entertained" by her large collection of Korean Movies and music! Her dream was to visit Tokyo Japan and Seoul Korea.

Amber often stated that her big brothers, Andre and JJ were her Heroes. She looked to them for love, respect, protection and examples of real men. She was very proud of them. Amber warmly referred to her mother as "Mama Bear" because she knew her mother always came to her aid and protected her at all costs. Amber's hope in Jehovah's Resurrection was solid. As her health steadily declined, Amber was asked if she was afraid of dying. Amber's candid response: "Why would I fear death? I won't know I have died! And when I do find out, it's because I've been resurrected! Surely I would be overjoyed then!"

On August 29, 2021 Amber (Alyssa) Latice departed this physical world at UC Hospital. She was preceded in death by her Brother Jemar and Grandfather Harry Winslow.

She leaves behind her Mother Roberta Toniatte (Patrick), Father Jermaine, Grandmother Ethelene (Michael), Siblings Andre, Vanessa, and Jermaine Jr (Melanie). Niece Isabella and Nephew Isaiah. And a hosts of wonderful family members and friends. Including her favorite Aunts Rachel, Chivonne and Barbara (Great Aunt), RoShawnda (Spiritual Aunt), Regina and her Uncle Jimmy. Special cousins, Jasmine who was also like a 2nd mother, Shonneé, Jaraeya, Johnathon, and Christopher. And her Dearest Best friend and roommate Nichaela, who was closer than a sister.

Amber deeply loved and was loved deeply by many, many cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Spiritual Family and Nurses! Amber left an impact on everyone she met. Amber truly was a source of joy and encouragement, always putting others before herself. Amber surely will be missed!
