Alton M. Sonstegard, age 93 of Centerville, passed away January 8, 2014. He was born August 7, 1920 in Enderlin, North Dakota to the late George and Jennie Sonstegard of New London, Minnesota.
Alton graduated valedictorian from New London High School. In his early days after high school, he started a radio repair shop.
He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a veteran of WWII. He retired as a Civil Engineer from Wright Patterson Air Force Base after 35 years of service. Alton enjoyed his business of radio and TV repair, traveling and boating.
In addition to his parents, Alton was preceded in death by two wives: Marywin Sonstegard and Ingeborg Sonstegard; sons: James Patrick and Paul Edward; step-sons: Reiner and Gary Focht; grandson, Micah Leonard Sonstegard; great grandson, Brody Trace Gartman; brothers and sister: Ralph and Irvin Sonstegard and Edna Dean.
Alton is survived by his children: Michael, William, Mary (Dale) Landes, Jeanne and Anne Sonstegard; grandchildren: Michael A. Jr., James D.; William C. Jr.; Charlene Horne, Jessica Reed; Jared R., Jenna D., Jeffrey D. Landes; Christine M. Gartman; 3 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Marion Dilley, Roger Sonstegard, Edith Jackson, Judy Sonstegard and Lee Sonstegard; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday.
