In the beginning, God created heaven and earth, and on November 28, 1952 he gave us Alphonso D. Mattison. He was born to George and Rilla Mattison. As a child, Alphonso was energetic, inquisitive, and intelligent. He spent his childhood days playing, racing, fighting and several mischievous ventures that kept him in trouble. As a teen he participated in mulitiple sports and graduated from Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School. At 18, he joined the United States Army for multiple years. During his servitude, he traveled to many locations and met several lifelong friends along the way. At the age of 23 he and his high school sweetheart, Wanda were blessed with their first daughter Me'Shell, lovingly called Bean and five years later, they were blessed with their second daughter Leslie, lovingly called Shortie. Fatherhood became the leading role in his life and it brought him tremendous joy and he loved every minute. Throughout the years, Alphonso was Dad to many others including Adrian and Adrianna Blevins, Argene Culpepper and special daughter Shonna Vaughn Phipps. Alphonso was also blessed to be a grandfather of two. Ruben and Alphonso lovingly called Dizco and Ru. He adored these two.
Outside of these loves, in his spare time, Alphonso enjoyed riding motorcycles, frequenting car shows, traveling, drawing, telling jokes, riding bikes and having deep conversations. He loved and lived for his family. He also had a personal relationship with God and read the bible daily. He was a believer and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior. On February 2, his lifelong mission by our creator was complete and he was called home by his Father. He is preceded in death by his father George Mattison and brother James Mattison. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Rilla Mattison and brother Randall Mattison, two daughters Me'Shell Mattison and Leslie Mattison, two grandsons, Ruben Hall and Alphonso Mattison. Also his longtime companion and bestfriend Suzanne Westfall, buddies Gilbert, and Jimmie Crutcher, and a whole host of others. Repast immediately following at the Chrysler Union Hall.
