Alma Gabbard

July 14, 1925 — August 24, 2013

Alma Gabbard, 88, was granted her angel wings on August 24, 2013. Her final weeks were spent exactly the way she would have wanted them; surrounded by family and friends.
She was the only surviving child of the triplets born to George P. and Allie (Wilson) Richardson on July 14, 1925 in Jackson County, Kentucky. Alma, her sister, and brother were named after the spouses of her oldest three siblings.
Though she had recently moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, Alma resided for more than 40 years in Florida. She and her husband, Vernon Gabbard, made their home in Naples, Florida where she worked in the men's department at Kmart and in the local direct mail location until she retired.
Her interests included family, sewing, gospel music, and of course, her favorite game shows; Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She devoted much of her time and energy to her pets, which throughout the years included a number of Pekinese, parakeets, and cockatiels, her family, and her church.
She was an active member of the First Assembly of God, and could be seen every Sunday singing second soprano in the choir. She and her husband were also very involved in outreach ministries for both the homeless and underprivileged children.
Mrs. Gabbard is survived by her children and their spouses, Vernon Jr (Polly) Gabbard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Pamela (Donald) Harden of Fort White, Florida, Mones (Judy) Gabbard of Naples, Florida; 10 grandchildren, Chris (Karen) Thompson, Gina (Alan) Savage, Jill (Bryan) Vice, Gretchen (David) Buckner, Ginger (Omar Hassan)Harden, Matt (Sandy) Gabbard, Donny Harden, Duane (Donna) Harden, Cory (Carly) Gabbard, Josh (Danielle) Gabbard; 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandsons.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Gabbard and daughter, Betty Jo Gabbard.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with the service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio.
