Alma Joyce Coleman, an accomplished musician, passed away on August 16, 2024 in Dayton, Ohio. Born on December 3, 1941, in Bossier City, Louisiana, Alma dedicated her life to the pursuit of music and education, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
A graduate of Bossier City High School, Alma furthered her education by attending Central State University where she studied classical music and graduated Magna Cum Laude . Her commitment to her craft and the impact of her musical talents resonated profoundly within her community and among her peers.
Alma reunites in eternal rest with her parents, Andrew and Hattie Cornelius; her infant daughter, Angela Coleman; brother, Emmanuel; and her son, Joseph L. Coleman Jr. Their memories will be honored and cherished by those she leaves behind.
Alma leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of nearly 64 years, Rev. Dr. Joseph L. Coleman; sons, Kenneth W. (Stacey) Coleman Sr. and Kelvin M. (Taeko) Coleman. Alma's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Kandace M. Coleman, Ashley L. Coleman, Brittany K. (Dana) Bradley, Brooke J. (Shaquan) Whorton, Jasmine C. Coleman, Kenneth W. Coleman Jr., Caeara M. (Katie) Coleman, Joshua R. Coleman, Sheridan Coleman, Jordan B. Coleman, and Luna Coleman. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Meshel Coleman; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was the epitome of style and grace, and will be remembered for her warmth, wisdom, and musical Godly spirit.
Alma Joyce Coleman will be remembered not only for her musical achievements but also for the love and support she provided to her family and friends throughout her life. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 12 pm at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church (5191 Hoover Avenue, Dayton, OH 45417). The family will receive friends from 11 am until the time of service. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 10 am at Dayton National Cemetery (4400 West Third Street, Dayton, OH 45428).
