Allen D. Prather

August 13, 1952 — April 1, 2014

Allen Prather passed away peacefully April 1, 2014 and followed the angels to heaven.

He is preceeded in death by his parents Verda (Louie) Wilkin, Samuel Prather, and his brother Mark Prather.

He is survived by his wife of almost 36 years Melissa Prather. His children that he was so proud of, son, Allen (Kristina) Prather II and daughter Tara (Charlie) Prather Stevens.

His 5 grandchildren that he adored and that brought so much love and happiness to his life. Tony Stevens, Alexia Stevens, Hailey Stevens, Hunter Prather, and Hailey Moses.

Allen loved his family, and before his spinocerebellar ataxia affected his body to much to walk, he was very active. He loved to coach his sons Little League baseball team, spending time with his family, gardening, listening to WLW, and his cincinnati reds.

He enjoyed long road trips with his wife, but he loved it more when he could drive. His wives driving made him a nervous wreck, especially in the mountains. Oh heck, anyone elses driving made him a nervous wreck.

Allen had quite the journey over the last few years..
He was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and was given maybe a year to live. After some research on treatment options he learned about RSO - Rick Simpson Cannabis oil, which is not legal here in Ohio. That didn't stop Allen and his wife from driving across country for treatment. So they loaded up their truck and they moved to Beverly. Well, not really, but they did load up their car, said goodbye to his children and grandchildren, family and friends and left for CA for 3 months to undergo his treatment with RSO which is legal there. Never knowing if he would see his children again or not.

We are saving all the details of that crazy adventure for a book in the works called Allens Journey.
Let me tell you what a journey it was from the great people he met along the way who risked everything to help him, to being followed by the police in an airplane in Kansas.

Allen never lost his wonderful sense of humor throughout his whole ordeal. And he has had outstanding results with the RSO, which he wanted you all to know should be completely decriminalized in Ohio..
Allen was a many of few words, but when he did talk, you wanted to be listening.
Ok, maybe because he might not say it again.
Allens smile was so contagious. It just made you want to smile too not matter what your mood.

Allen was very protective of his family and never let them know how much pain he was really in his last few months. As he liked to say "I'm fine". On Allens final few days he was seeing angels and lost relatives in his room. From the baby on the floor (possibly Daniel his brother that passed at 2 days old), to his step dad (Louie) whom he kept telling "not yet", and the female angel in his room floating in the air that he had to warn that she was about to crash into the wall.
That's Allen always looking out for others, even angels.
I imagine he will be looking after his family from above now.

No one ever met Allen that didn't like him. The outpouring of support for him and his family in his last few days proved that with hundreds of well wishes and prayers and good vibes.
The world was a better place with Allen in it and now I'm sure heaven will be a better place too.

Allen hated to have money spent on him and I can almost hear him now saying how much is this Funeral going to cost you?! Allen would have been happy in a pine box planted in the garden so I could save on fertilizer. All the while with a smile.

He will always be sadly missed by his family and friends. Anyone that ever met Allen never forgot him.
