On June 8th, 2021, Alison Darnell King passed away peacefully at the age of 71. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Esther, and his son, Daniel, as well as three brother-in-laws, three sister-in-laws.
and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, three sisters, two brothers, and his aunt.
A man made deaf from birth, his lack of hearing never stopped him from being a joyful, gregarious person who loved to meet and befriend new people and see and do new things in the world. This desire for outreach and adventure manifested itself in one of his greatest joys in life - sharing the message of Jesus Christ, as Al had been a born-again Christian from a young age. He was one of the founding members of the Miami Valley Baptist Church for the Deaf and Hearing, and he took part in international mission trips to Japan, Colombia, and Uruguay to spread the gospel of Christ.
He was a man of many talents and a varied hobbyist - a capable drawing artist, a card-and-props magician, a dabbler in woodworking / carpentry, and a lifelong fanatic for classic movies and television for which comedies and westerns were among his very favorites. Perhaps his most significant hobby, however, was his love of automobiles. He found great joy in assembling diecast model car kits, relished in the thrill of sanctioned drag-racing and NASCAR, and was extensively knowledgeable about the inner-workings of automobiles themselves, such
that he was a practical and effective at-home mechanic. He also had a great love for animals, having many cats and dogs throughout his lifetime and eager for any opportunity to interact with a fuzzy friend.
He was always excited, always laughing, and always interested in seeing what life had in store. He loved the people of the MVBCDH church dearly, and it was his church he missed the most as his aging afflictions prevented him from attending. He awaits his next chance to see his family, and friends, in the Kingdom of Heaven.
No services will be held at this time.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Al's memory to the Miami Valley Baptist Church for the Deaf and Hearing, 1642 Bartley Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45414.
