POMPOS, Albert "Al" of Kettering, OH, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007 after a brief illness. Al proudly served his country during WWII with the US Navy and was involved in every major battle in the Pacific, aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Yorktown, CV-5, having to abandon ship during the battle of Midway Island June 6, 1942. He retired from WPAFB after 36 years of service. He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Evelyn (Krieger) Pompos, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to various units at Bethany Village for their gracious and special care. A graveside service will be held 11:30AM Monday June 4, 2007 at David's Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00AM Monday June 4, 2007 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd. In lieu of flowers contributions, if desired, may be made to The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (Combat Casualty Assistance), 875 N.
