Albert D. Jackson Sr.

October 5, 1938 — April 12, 2022

Albert D. Jackson Sr., age 83, of Dayton, passed away at the Dayton VA Medical Center on April 12, 2022. He was born on October 5, 1938, in Cookeville, TN to the late Charlie and Esta Jackson.

In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Fran; his sons Chuck and Steven (Sandra); grandson, Charlie; sister, Mazie; and brother, Ed.

Al is survived by his son Albert Jr.; grandchildren, Matt (Mandy), Holly Jo (Matt Kelly), Brad (Jamie Fink) and Nate (Breanna Hatcher); great grandchildren, Kaden, Kalissa, Kynley, Karter, Jonathan, Destiny, Colton, Londyn, and Kamdyn; sister, Norma Howell; daughter-in-law Kae Jackson; his life long best friend Tony Hopkins, his bonus granddaughter Janiya Corbett as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Al attended Kiser High School where he met (and eventually marrried) his high school sweetheart, Francis Jo Kanak. Al attended Kiser until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1957 to serve his country, and eventually went on to earn his GED. While enlisted in the marines, he married Fran that same year and they lived in 29 Palms, CA where Fran gave birth to their first son, Al Jr. After 29 Palms, he and the family moved back to Dayton, Ohio where they would go on to have 2 more sons (Chuck and Steve). Following his military career, Al went on to work for Standard Register for 43 years prior to his retirement.

When not in Dayton cheering on his sons and eventually grandkids at a variety of sporting events, you could find Al on Brush Creek, located off the Ohio River in Adam's County. Al loved camping and boating and owned various boats throughout the years. But more than anything he took pride in pulling the kids, grandkids, and family friends behind his boat. Whether he was trying to throw them off the tube, or teaching them to ski for the first time (hanky in hand to dry his eyes) he was always behind the steering wheel with Fran right behind him.

In addition to boating and camping, Al loved sports, both watching and participating. He was a fan of traveling to Nascar races with his buddies and setting up camp in the infield. Of all the races he's been to, he's quick to tell you that Talladega was his favorite of them all, and Dale Earnhardt will always be his favorite driver. He also loved to watch Ohio State football, Duke Basketball and his Cincinnati Bengals. Whenever he was participating instead of watching, you could find Al tossing anything from horseshoes, to washers, to Cornhole bags.

Al also frequented the American Legion Post 746 and the VFW Post 6560 - drinking beer with his friends, entering the Queen of Hearts drawing and playing Euchre. He quickly became "The Mayor" of anywhere he went and he's never met a stranger. He always gave the best Dreaded Jackson Hugs, he had a smile that can light up any room, and he could jitterbug with the best of them.

Al was a family man through and through. He loved Fran, his 3 boys, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren fiercely. He loved to tell stories of their lives, their accomplishments, their adventures, and everyone knew how proud he was of them all.

As much as he loved others, he was loved equally in return by us all. The void created in our lives by his absence will be hard to fill. However, there is no doubt our hearts will be full of love, and our minds full of great memories.

Al will be deeply missed by us all.

A visitation will be held from 12:00pm to 1:30pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, where the funeral service will begin at 1:30pm. The family asks that you join them afterwards at the VFW Post 6560 for a celebration of his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to the Dayton VA Medical Center. They handled his care with great professionalism and compassion until the end. (Www.Dayton.VA.gov/giving )
