Albert K. Hughes, age 95, of Beavercreek, passed away on October 4, 2016, at his home. He was born September 15, 1921, in Adams County, Ohio, the son of the late Walter L. Hughes and Sadie Kendall Hughes. In addition to his parents, Albert is preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Hughes; infant son, Gary A. Hughes; two sisters, Annabel Hughes of Winchester and Olive Shafer of Georgetown, Ohio; and brother, Charles M. Hughes of Russellville, Ohio.
Albert is survived by daughter, Linda K. Hughes Martin (Richard) of Xenia, Ohio; son, Dennis A. Hughes (Fiancé Bridget Lampton) of Shelbyville, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Jennifer Flora of Springfield, Ohio, and Jessica Farrell of Springboro, Ohio; grandson, Benjamin Hughes and Nathaniel Hughes of Louisville, Kentucky; seven great grandchildren, Kurt, Grant, Elly, Nathaniel, Ashlyn, Elliot, and Ethan; nieces, Shirley Lewis and Beverly Bloom; and Nephews, Ronald Hughes, Donald Hughes, and Dean Shafer.
Albert graduated from Cherry Fork High School in Adams County, Ohio. He went on to serve with the Ninth Air Force during World War II, in the U.S. and in Europe, from 1942 to 1947. He earned the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and received the American Theater Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Albert retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1977 after 37 years of service. He also worked for 32 years as a bus driver for the Beavercreek Schools Systems Department of Transportation, and retired in May of 1986. He was a member of Northside Christian Church in Xenia, Ohio.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, OH, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm with a funeral service following. Burial will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Adam's County Christian School.
