Adelia "Dee Dee" Irene Barone

May 17, 1948 — October 26, 2024

Adelia (Dee Dee) Irene Hardman Barone was born on May 17, 1948 in Weston, W.V., to Hazel Irene Mowrey Hardman and Victor Hugo Hardman.

Adelia lived in Cedarville, Ohio and was 76 years old, she went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2024 in home hospice care, after a long battle with osteosarcoma (cancer of the bone). She was a member of The United Methodist Church from her childhood.

She is survived by her husband of 53+ years, Rev. Alan Drew Barone; son, Adam Victor Edward Barone of Ferndale, Michigan; daughters, Amy Irene Barone, of Columbus, Ohio and Allison Drew Barone; grandson, Austin Victor Drew; daughter-in-law, Crystal and granddaughter, Savannah, all of Tallmadge, Ohio. Also surviving Dee Dee are a sister, Bethanne Kopplin (Leonard), of Leesburg, FL; her brother, David Hardman (Kathy) of Phillipsburg, Missouri and niece, Jill Hamilton (David) of Thomasville, NC. Also, a big part of Adelia's family was her constant companion, Sonny Taco, her beloved 5 year old, red-haired Chihuahua.

With a vivacious, warm and generous spirit, she is deeply missed by everyone.

Dee Dee grew up on a 200+ acre cattle and sheep farm (Linden Farm) in Jane Lew, Lewis County, West Virginia. The farm had been in the family for 150 years. Her father, Victor, owned the farm and was the only one of his siblings who decided to stay on the farm. In fact, he graduated from West Virginia University in 1926 with a degree in animal husbandry. This was very unusual for a farmer in 1926.

Dee Dee was deeply involved in 4-H as a youth and became a 4-H All Star from Lewis County.

She graduated from Weston High School in 1966 and won a full-ride Board of Regents Scholarship to West Virginia University School of Creative Arts. WITH PERFECT PITCH, she had majors in trumpet and piano and minors in voice and organ. She was so good as a trumpet player that as a sophomore she was first chair in the WVU orchestra.

She graduated from WVU in 1970 with a bachelors degree in music education and performance. Dee Dee graduated from The Methodist Theological School in Ohio in 1975 with a Master of Arts in Christian Education. She studied at Wright State University and earned a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling in 1992 (with honors) and she became a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in 1994. She was engaged in music leadership in churches for 50 years.

She started at nine years old by playing piano at her home church, the Mount Hebron Methodist Church in Jane Lew. Her music career included joyfully playing piano, organ, directing singing choirs and bell choirs. She was a professional mental health counselor for 30 years working in community agencies, a private consultation and counseling practice and in 2022. She established her own remote mental health counseling practice, continuing until her health failed her 2024. As a mental health counselor she was known as a highly effective, caring counselor with a wide variety of clients, from children, to teenagers, to marriage counseling, family counseling, to anger management, to professional anxiety, to mental health disorders, to Christian counseling. She was in high demand, often having a full case load of clients with a waiting list. She will be greatly missed by her clients and their families.
