James A Brooks

Brooks, James A., 88, of Dayton, OH went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2016. He was born in Canton, OH to the late Joe Douglas Brooks and Lurly Stovall.

James was preceded in death by his parents; His wife Alice V. Brooks; Children Steven, James, Cheryl Denise, and Anthony; Sisters Dorothy Ann Newkirk, Katherine Roy, and Lola Brooks; Step-mother Louise Brooks.

He is survived by Children Carla D. Ojezua, James C. Brooks, Karen A. (Jerome) Lane, Cheryl L. Harris, Shanda Williams, and Shawn C.L. "Byrd" Brooks; Brother Elbert (Helen) Dunivant; Special friend Georgia M. Nowlin; 10 Grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; Numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

James served our country in the United States Air Force in his teenage years. Following his military career he was married and started a family while working as a chef. Years after the passing of his first family he met Georgia M. Roy (Nowlin) and started a new family. He opened an appliance business with his best friend, Elmer Howard, that he was dedicated to for many years. Then he became a detective with the Sheriff's Department in Jefferson Township where he worked until he retired. James loved to spend his free time fishing, hunting, golfing, and bowling. He was also a Mason until he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. James dedicated many hours and days of his life to the church that he truly loved. In addition to his love to his church and family he loved his dogs.

A service for James will be held at 12:00pm on July 22, 2016 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1500 Shiloh Springs Rd., Dayton, OH 45426. Family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 11:00am.
