George Bradley Hagan

George Bradley (Brad) Hagan, age 72, of Middletown, Ohio passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024. He was surrounded by loving family and friends. Born November 8, 1951 in Barnesville, Ohio, Brad is preceded in death by his parents, Mansel and Catherine (Gallager) Hagan and brothers, Paul (Pam) Hagan and James Hagan.

Brad is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Thim (Urmetz) Hagan; brother, Sam (Kathy) Hagan; sister Rebecca (Bill) Casto; brother, Tom (Becky) Hagan; nephews, Mark (Jodi) Hagan, Tyler Hagan; niece, Kaitlin Hagan; great-nieces, Kelly Hagan, Whitney (Ethan) Clark and great-nephew, Zac (Alicia) Hagan.

Brad graduated in 1969 from Meadowdale High School in Dayton, Ohio. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 and a Master of Science degree in 1988; both in Computer Science from Wright State University.

Brad worked as an engineer for over 49 years in software and hardware development within the military research and development community in the Dayton area. He was lead software engineer on many USAF weapon systems development programs in both the private and government sectors. Brad joined the USNR in 1979 and served in various capacities in the Seabees reaching the level of Chief Petty Officer (BUC). He received an honorable discharge when he retired in 2006 after 27 years of service. Brad deployed overseas twice for extended tours in both the Gulf War in 1991 and again during the Iraq War in 2004. In 2004 he was deployed with the 1st Marine Division that launched Operation Vigilant Resolve to gain control of the city of Fallujah where he was engaged in some of the fiercest urban combat seen in US engagements since Vietnam. Brad was awarded the USN Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist insignia, Fleet Marine Force insignia, and awarded numerous medals including the National Defense Service Medal, the USNR Meritorious Service Medal, the Expert Pistol Qualification Medal, and the Naval Achievement Medal.

From a young age Brad enjoyed playing tennis. For years he served as an ambassador for the sport of tennis in the Miami Valley area organizing tournaments, leagues, and strengthening the participation in the sport he loved. He was assistant coach for the girls tennis team at Carroll for two years before becoming Varsity B Coach for the boys tennis team at Beavercreek High School for eight years. He coached till the end where he treasured each and every one of his players as his own. He was an avid woodworker, builder, and a voracious reader of history.

Brad leaves many friends behind who will miss his light dearly. May his memory be blessed and his life serve as an example to all who knew him.

The family will receive friends at St. Lukes Catholic Church (1440 N. Fairfield Rd) on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 from 9:30am to 10:30am with Mass directly following. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery following the Mass.
