Bonnie Jean Blue, age 79, of Kettering, OH passed away on November 27, 2023. She was born in San Antonio, TX on February 4, 1944, the first child of the late Paul and Marjorie (Benjamin) Kersey.
Bonnie is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Bob; children, Steve (Lisa) Blue, Mandy Blue (Joelle McConnell); granddaughter, Emma Blue; step-granddaughters, Kelsey McConnell, Bailey McConnell; siblings, Gail (Don) Cook, Ralph Kersey, Jim Kersey; sister-in-law, Judy Hood and best friend, Missy Lucas; plus many other family and friends.
Bonnie was still a baby when WWII ended and her dad was honorably discharged from service. The family moved back to her parents' hometown of Dayton, OH. She grew up in the Belmont neighborhood and went to Cleveland Elementary School and Belmont High School, graduating in 1962. Bonnie and Bob were meant to be together. They had their first date on December 16, 1960 as 16 year old Belmont High Juniors. That date began a 63 year love affair which will never end.
Bonnie graduated from The Dayton School of Practical Nursing in 1965 and began her nursing career shortly after she and Bob were married on June 11, 1965. Providing education to her patients was very important to her. She had a fulfilling and varied career, gaining much experience working in Plastic Surgery for Dr. Weisman, General Practice for Dr. Nangle, Pediatrics for Drs. Schaffer and Ginger and Internal Medicine for Dr. Fleagle. After ending her full time career with Dr. Fleagle, she worked part-time in Hand Surgery for Drs. Danis and Barre. Bonnie retired from nursing in 2008 after 43 years of dedication.
She was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church. When her two children were young Bonnie helped in the Nursery during church services and later taught a Sunday School class for children. In the 2000's until her retirement she tutored children at Orchard Park Elementary School in Kettering, where she had lived since 1979.
Bonnie and Bob were fortunate to travel extensively ever since their 1st major three week road trip through the Western U.S. in 1967. She had been to almost every U.S. state including Alaska and Hawaii. After retirement, she traveled to a number of foreign countries and took cruises to many others. She probably was in over 30 countries. Her favorite was Italy. She really enjoyed her last cruise before Covid, a Grand European River cruise with Viking. She looked forward each year to spending several weeks twice a year in Jensen Beach, FL. She loved beaches and the ocean. She also had a good time playing Texas Hold 'em at the Kremers' with all her friends. Bonnie had a fondness for learning and a sense of adventure. She took pleasure in many varied activities and experiences throughout the years.
Bonnie was a truly caring person. She very seldom put her needs above those of others. Even during her recent hospice stay she seemed more concerned about her family than herself. She was a sweet person blessed with a wonderful life.
