Otis Eugene Cooley was born to the late L.J. Cooley and Ola Ray McNeal on January 27, 1936 in Waynesboro, MS.
Otis graduated from Waynesboro High School and later joined the U.S Army where he served for six years.
After moving to Dayton, Otis's career of more than 50 years included employment with the City of Dayton, Molers Dairy and Wagner-Smith. After retiring, Otis enjoyed working on cars, fishing and gardening with his late wife, Gertrude.
Before becoming ill, Otis regularly attended the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall and recently began studying the truth with friends Randy Clark and John Walden.
Otis is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of almost 50 years, Gertrude (Avery) Cooley, brothers, Robert L. Cooley, Cecil Ray Cooley, and Willie Earl Cooley and grandsons Damaro (Maury) Lewis and Dorrian Anderson.
Mourning his loss are his sister, Mary Sue Cooley-Fails, step brother, Lawrence Morgan, children; Michael (Torcia) Mayfield, Angela Williams, Stacia Williams and Derrick Anderson, grandchildren; Aaron (LaTisha) Mayfield, Garrison Anderson, Cayla Anderson and Justin Williams; great grandson, Cameron Porter; special cousin Mary Catherine Logan and his beloved pet, Birdie Mae. Also mourning his loss are a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and special friends Randy Clark, Shirley Baldwin and long-time caregiver Deonsia Scott.
Otis's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Brookdale Kettering and CareTenders Hospice for the wonderful care provided to him, with special recognition of Inez Coles, Brandon Carr and Peggy Shanks.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Newcomer Kettering Chapel. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm.
Otis's service will be livestreamed at the scheduled service time.
