Emma Sue Smith

Emma Sue Smith, age 86, of Springfield and Dayton, passed away December 17, 2022. She was born June 2, 1936 in Harlan, KY to the late James and Judy Thornton. In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Smith; son-in-law, Randolph Harris; granddaughter, Kayla West; daughter-in-law, Deloris Moerch; niece, Del Krug; nephew, Jimmy Thornton; brothers: James Eugene Thornton and Bobby Ray Thornton; sister, Betty Lou Petry; and sister-in-law, Betty Thornton.

Emma is survived by her children: Bobby Moerch, Brenda West (Harold), Doug Smith, Alice Harris, David Moerch, James Moerch (Shannon) and Kent Smith (Kim); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter; sisters: Ruth Woodruff and Pat Judd; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Emma was a member of First Baptist Church of Northridge and Landmark Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She retired from Retail after many years of service. She loved hosting family get-together's, baking cakes, riding roller-coasters, watching The Ohio State Buckeyes and eating peach ice cream. Emma loved babies and often adopted others as her own by making them feel welcome and loved. She enjoyed taking pictures and always had a smile on her face.
