Kay Lynne Close

October 5, 1946 — May 16, 2022

Kay Lynne (Houston) Close of Centerville, Ohio passed away May 16, 2022. Her husband and two daughters were at her side.

She was born October 5, 1946 to Gordon and Donna Houston and grew up in Wadsworth, Ohio with her parents and 3 siblings. In 1967 she married the love of her life, Kent Close, whom she met in high school. She spent most of her life in Centerville where she and Kent raised their daughters and enjoyed 54 years of marriage.

Kay dedicated 45 years of her life working as a wonderful and caring nurse. She graduated from the Akron School of Nursing in 1967. She worked in obstetrics the majority of her career, including as a Labor & Delivery nurse, Childbirth Educator, Mother/Baby nurse, and a Doula. She retired from Kettering Medical Center in 2012 after more than 40 years of service.

She is survived by her husband Kent, daughter Kristie (Rick) Dravenstott of Wellesley MA, daughter Karri (Jeff) Bass of Loveland OH, 6 grandchildren (Collin Bass, Tyler Dravenstott, Anna Dravenstott, Ryan Bass, Elizabeth Dravenstott and Brooke Bass), and 3 siblings (brother Brice (Jane) Houston and sisters Laura Delnoce and Janet (Dan) Conkey), as well as many nieces and nephews.

She lived her life with a great love for people and helping others. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching her grandchildren's sports & activities, and traveling with Kent.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Kay can be made to the Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) Coalition: https://www.multiplesystematrophy.org/donate/ or The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research: https://www.michaeljfox.org/donate

The cardinal pictured above is to remind us that Kay's spirit will always be with us. Before she passed, she had a special cardinal that would often visit outside her window. When we told her that the cardinal seems to be watching over her, she said that one day she'll be like that cardinal watching over us. Whenever we see a cardinal, we will think of her.

Memorial service details will be forthcoming.
