John Thomas "Tom" Gray, age 78, of Dayton, passed away February 19, 2022. He was born June 4, 1943 in Dayton, Ohio to the late John Thomas Gray, Sr. and Maureen Gray. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by uncles: Paul R. Gray, Sr. (Virginia) and Morris Wilson; aunt, Mae Hawker (Joseph); grandparents: Glen and Anna F. Gray; and cousins: Judith Lynn Gray McNeil and Paul Richard Gray, Jr.
Tom is survived by his cousins: Alice Chlumecky (Wayne), Linda Gray, Mark Wilson and Michelle Jones (Russell); aunt, Peggy Wilson; and many dear friends.
Tom owned many local bars in the Dayton area, including: Carl's Tavern, Hillside Tavern, Mr. P's, Shenanigan's, Goal Line and Pepper's Sports Bar / Perky's Pizza. He was very active with the Dayton Gems Hockey Team, where he was a former announcer, on the board of directors, a stock holder and a season ticket holder. Tom loved harness racing - he trained many horses and also owned several race horses over the years. Tom also loved his dogs.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where a memorial service will begin at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tom's memory to Standardbred Retirement Foundation, 42 Arneytown-Hornerstown Road, Cream Ridge, NJ 08514, Hospice of Dayton and or Montgomery County Humane Society.
