Howard Eugene Klotzbach, "Duke", age 95, of Dayton, passed away October 1, 2021. Howard was born in Dayton, Ohio on November 9, 1925 to the late Andrew Sr. and Josephine Klotzbach. In addition to his parents, Howard is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ida Marie Klotzbach; brothers: Charles Klotzbach, Andrew Klotzbach Jr., and Richard Klotzbach; and grandson: Franklin Connel.
Howard joined the United States Army in 1944 at the age of 19. He was a member of the 99th Division Infantry, where he earned the rank of Master Sergeant. He was stationed in Belgium, France, and Germany during World War II. He was called back into service during the Korean War, and was stationed in the United States to train new recruits for base camp setup. After his military service, he returned to Standard Register to work as a typographer and retired after 46 years. During his retirement, he volunteered at Carillon Park for 25 years, where he helped set up and run the print shop. In his free time, he was a very accomplished wood-worker and carpenter. He was very well-versed in photography, and he started his own wedding photography service.
He will be remembered by his children: Peggy J. Connel, Douglas Klotzbach, Joyce Medlar, and Richard C. Klotzbach; 8 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; his long-time neighbor and friend, Eric Ellington; and many other loving family and friends.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, Ohio.
