Vernon V. Newton Jr.

Vernon V. Newton Jr., age 72 of Springfield, OH, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2021, in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born June 30, 1949 in Dayton, OH to the late Vernon and Cecilia Newton Sr.
Left to cherish Vern's memory are his spouse, Mary Newton; daughter, Kimberly (Joseph Dennis) Newton; sister, Judi Riepenhoff; grandchildren: Marissa and Jonathon Sagraves; great-grandson, Braxton Joseph Vaughn McDargh; nieces and nephews: Jimmy Newton, Woody Taylor, Robin (Tad) Hunter, Tim Taylor, Scott Taylor, and Holly Taylor, several other great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Vern was a passionate storyteller and jokester. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying all manner of sports. He had previously served as a manager for the Patterson Park Little League baseball fields. He contributed to opening a new concession stand there, and was instrumental in maintaining the grounds. Vern particularly enjoyed following the Philadelphia Flyers, Green Bay Packers, and The Big Red Machine (except for Johnny Bench) games. His radio was always tuned to Sports Talk Radio. He liked to listen to the Dan Patrick show, among others. Vern loved whatever car he happened to be currently driving, taking great care in keeping his ride in immaculate condition. Even when he had an old beater of a Cadillac, he washed that car every Sunday. Other interests that Vern appreciated were building model cars, drawing, painting, being around children, and listening to classic rock music, especially The Beatles. Most of all, Vern enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Vern was preceded in death by his brother, James (Lillian) Newton; sister, Rose Tackett; and nephew, Anthony Taylor.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek) where a funeral service celebrating Vern's life will follow at 6:30 p.m.
