Viola May Hunter (Sooy) passed away peacefully in her home on June 27, 2021. She was born on March 4, 1929 in Madison, Indiana. One of five siblings, she grew up in this small town along the river. At 18 she moved to Dayton, Ohio looking toward the growing job market. After working at the McCrory's dime store for a short time she met the love of her life, Lindsay Leon Hunter and was married in Rossville, Georgia on February 21, 1948. Viola then began working at Delco Products and worked there until 1963. Viola and Lindsay had three children, Mike, Larry, and Kathy. In 1963, Viola chose to remain home and devote her life to raising her children. Viola enjoyed bargain hunting and spending time with her loved ones. Her family was truly the focus of her life. Through her, we know what resilience, perseverance, and loyalty truly looked like. There was no quit in Viola.
Viola is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Opal Sooy, sister Evelyn Pruett, brothers Ralph (Bud) Sooy, Donald Sooy, Wayne Sooy, husband Lindsay Hunter, and son Larry Hunter. She is survived by her son Michael Hunter (Carol), Kathy Carr (Jim), grandchildren Greg, Beth Hunter, Brian Hunter (Angie), Scott Hunter, Zachary Carr (Jaclyn), Megan Bonk (Eddie), and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home - South Chapel located at 3940 Kettering Boulevard Kettering, Ohio 45439. Funeral Service will be officiated at 4:00 pm. Funeral Procession will follow to Evergreen Cemetery located at 401 North Miami Avenue West Carrollton, OH 45449.
