Robert James "Jim" Eby passed from this life on September 27, 2020 at age 99. We believe that he is now reunited with his wife of 69 years Freda Mae (Emig) Eby. Jim was born June 26, 1921 in Trotwood, Ohio to his late parents Vernon and Bertha (Lentz) Eby. He developed a strong work ethic while growing up on a dairy farm with his late brothers and sisters, Leona (Rich) Philbrick, Emerson Eby, Harold (Marqurite) Eby and Genoa (Lyle) Kilgore. During WWII he served in the US Navy, continuing his service to our country in the Naval Reserve until retirement. He was a proud alumni of Otterbein College where he met his beloved wife Freda Mae (Emig) Eby who left this world on July 22, 2017. For 38 years he was a teacher, football coach and athletic director in the Dayton area. Jim was also a founding member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Huber Heights and a member of the Ohio High School Football Hall of Fame.
He is survived by one daughter, Roberta (Drexel) Matthews and 3 sons, Dennis (Carol) Eby, David (Phyllis) Eby, and Dale (Christine) Eby. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Tracie (Tyler) Davis, Marcia (Richard) Gonzalez, Ben (Sarah) Eby, Chris (Nikki) Eby, Sarah Eby, Matt (Chrissy) Eby, Andrew Eby, Michelle (Michael) Jarman, Cara (Sean) Wampler, Travis Eby, Kyle (Amanda) Eby and Brianne Eby. Jim and Freda have 11 great-grandchildren, Kahlan and Cameron Davis, Adalynn and Jack Eby, Isabelle Eby, Taylor and Kate Eby, Corinne Jarman, baby girl Wampler, Sabine and Archer Eby. Included among his numerous nieces, nephews and friends are Suzie Reiselt, Dave Leedy, and Bruce Hain. Special thank you to the dedicated staff at The Landings of Huber Heights where he received good care for 4 years.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 5040 Rye Drive, Huber Heights, where the funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm.
