Marvin Burns, age 87 of Dayton, Ohio, passed away Friday, September 18, 2020. He was born December 6, 1932 in Jefferson, Georgia.
Marvin was a 1951 graduate of Dunbar High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, Marvin worked for Ohio Bell for a short time. He then became employed with the Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he worked in communications and retired after over 35 years. After his retirement, Marvin worked for Meijer for about ten years.
Marvin was a member of Phillips Temple CME Church where he taught Sunday School for several years. He was an artist and he excelled in canvas painting. He could paint virtually anything from landscapes to portraits. He also enjoyed crafting with Doris Ann and landscaping in his yard. Marvin will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kindness, and helpful ways.
Marvin was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Burns Hendricks; father, Lonnie Burns, Sr.; son, Kevin Burns; daughter, Cheryl Burns; and brothers, Lonnie Burns, Jr. and Calvin Burns.
Marvin will be missed by his loving wife, Doris Ann Imhoff; sister, Rose B. Lynch; and numerous family and friends.
Family will receive friends Sunday, September 27, 2020 from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Marvin's memory to The Heart Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
