James A. "Dobie" Gillis, age 85 of Huber Heights, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Dayspring Healthcare & Rehab Center. He was born August 5, 1935 in Trenton, Michigan the son of Donald and Martha Gillis.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marines as a Radio Operator. He was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of My Father's House in New Carlisle. He enjoyed leatherwork, ceramics, watch repair, and playing his harmonica. He also loved hunting and spending time in the woods. Jim loved being with his family, laughing and being ornery even with the nursing staff. His favorite reply when asked how he was doing was, " I'm blessed of God and highly favored." He was a loving father and Pawpaw who will be dearly missed.
Jim is survived by his sons, Barry W. Gillis, Jay A.Gillis; daughter, Tamara S. Cloyes; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, all of the Dayton area; brother, Tim Gillis; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (nee Damron)Gillis; his parents; grandson, Elisha James Gillis; brother, Donald J. Gillis; and sister, Marilyn Buehler.

The family will receive friends at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432, on Monday September 14th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 6 pm with Pastor Jay A. Gillis officiating. Interment will be at Ridgewood Cemetery, Wellston, Ohio.
