Barbara "Barb" Ann Jordan, age 91, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Sycamore Glen Retirement Center in Miamisburg, Ohio.
Barb, born February 26, 1929, is survived by her beloved husband of 71 years, Tom Jordan. She also leaves behind her son James Jordan, daughter-in-law Kerry and granddaughter Emily, who live in Cypress, California. Barb is also survived by her sister Estelle, her sister-in-law Patricia, as well as many nieces and nephews from around the country. Barb outlived her parents, James and Marion Flaws, as well as her brothers, Earle, Jack, Jerry, James, and Robert. Barb also survived the death of her son, Thomas Jordan, Jr. in 2011.
Barb (or "Bobbie") Flaws grew up in Standish, Michigan, a small town where church and family were important. Barb was a friendly outgoing young lady, who was a good piano player and saxophone player in her school band. After graduating from high school, Barb attended Alma College, a small liberal arts school in Michigan. It was there she met a young sailor who had just returned from World War 2. That man was Tom Jordan. Soon, they had fallen in love and decided to make a life together, relocating in Lansing, Michigan where Tom had found employment. Barb, using her love of music, found a job at a local music store. During their time in Lansing, the couple gave birth to their first son, Thomas, Jr.
Several years later, the family moved to Dayton, Ohio, where Tom started working for a pharmaceutical company and Barb gave birth to their second child, James. Barb, a stay-at-home mother, became very active in the school's Parent-Teacher Association, (PTA). Life in Dayton was good and their home was always active. During those years, no one ever locked their doors, and neighborhood children would run in and out of their house constantly. Pets were always around as well, including dogs, a hamster, and many reptiles. Barb and Tom enjoyed playing cards; bridge, cribbage and other card games filled many of their evenings.
When the boys were out of the house, Barb pursued a career in real estate before shifting gears and becoming the store manager of a local retailer, DeClark's. Barb, who worked at DeClark's for over 15 years, was adored by both staff and customers.
In later years, Barb and Tom became involved with Fairhaven Church in Centerville, Ohio, which became their home church thereafter. Barb and Tom met many dear friends at Fairhaven Church, who regularly visited the couple after they moved into Sycamore Glen Retirement Center four years ago.
Barb's smile, laughter, energy, love of life, and faith in Jesus will be missed by all who knew her.
