Jo-Ethel Thomas made her transition into eternal peace Tuesday, June 30, 2020, born June 23rd, 1946, in Greenwood, Mississippi, age 74. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. (Dickey )Thomas; mother, Ethel Lee McGee; father, Joe Floyd; cherished Daughter, Pamela Renee Floyd; sisters, Dorothy (Jean) McGee Fisher and Florence Gaddis; brothers, Frank J Floyd and James E McGee.

She leaves to honor her memory brothers, Percy and Will McGee; son, James (Phyllis)Brown; grandchildren, Paul Dorsey Jr., Angelo Jr. and D'Angela (Missy)Turpin; Joshua and Jessica Brown, Camerson, Christopher, Cody and Crystal Smith, Darnell and Darnish Perkins, Kresha Wright; great grandchildren, Kamari and RaeLyn Bogan; special aunts, Sarah L. Johnson and Estella Bishop; special friends, Thelma Davis, Mary Spanish, Jackie and Pastor Bobby Howard.

Jo-Ethel graduated From Jackson State University in 1970, where she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., she went on to receive her Master's Degree from Wright State University in 1988. She taught in the Dayton Public School System for over 30 years. Known by her Colleagues and students as one of the sharpest teachers to ever step into a classroom. Jo-Ethel was strict and well respected by her students. She was recognized in the "Who's Who" book. After a lengthy career as an educator, she battled breast cancer and as with all things in her life God gave her the strength to survive. She was a faithful member of New Fellowship MBC, in Dayton, Ohio.

Jo-Ethel, affectionately known as Jo Baby, (only a few could get away with calling her that) was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She birthed one child, but raised many children. No one ever left her home hungry or thirsty. Good and faithful servant, she is now an angel in Gods Army.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020, from 9:30am-10:30am at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, where Funeral Services will begin at 10:30am with Rev. Robert Thornton officiating. Burial will be held privately at Dayton National Cemetery.
