WAGNER, Eleanor Marie (Ellie) Age 89 of Beavercreek passed away May 7, 2020 in her home.
Eleanor was born on July 29, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Leonard C. and Esther M. (Schwarzlose) Hedrick. Her father was an architect and teacher, her mother an accomplished church keyboardist. They lived in many locales throughout the Midwest during the Great Depression and settled in Dayton, Ohio following WWII. Eleanor graduated from Fairview High School in 1948, earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Miami University in 1952 and later a Master's in Counseling from Wright State University.
She taught elementary and junior high orchestral strings for Huber Heights City Schools, retiring after 26 years of service. Although she didn't receive many apples from her students, she was bestowed hundreds of interesting violin-related knick-knacks over the years. Following her teaching career, she worked for DeClark's Hallmark for 10 years which provided her access to wonderful gifts for her beloved grandchildren. Ellie enjoyed attending Dayton Philharmonic performances and for a number of years was a choir member at Christ United Methodist Church. She was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, closely followed the PGA Tour (being particularly fond of Fred Couples), was a league bowler, and proudly collected and displayed refrigerator magnets from her family's travels.
She was preceded in death by her parents and older siblings Lila, Russ, Ruth and Loretta.
She is survived by sons Daryl (Vikki), Dan, Doug (Nancy) and daughter Susan Wagner, as well as 10 grandchildren, Andrea Hamlett, Christina O'Bryan (Kyle), Richard "Dan" Wagner (Paige Norton), Dawn Perez (Phil), Michael Williams, Melody France (Aaron), Amie Pishvai (Tony), Kevin Wagner (Melissa), Jessica Williams, Lauren Becktell (Aaron) and 16 great-grandchildren.
A private burial service will be held at David's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
