Richard Lee Ortman, age 79 of Dayton, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020 at his home. He was born December 13, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio son of the late Wilbur and Ethel Ortman.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Joann Hunter.
Dick is survived by his wife of 29 years, Darla Rae Ortman; children, Teresa Brewer, Cathy Ortman, Matthew Ortman, Albert W. (Melissa) Pound Jr., CaSaundra L. Sweeney and Kenny R. Pound; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, William "Bill" Ortman; sisters-in-law, Edith Walker and Shirley Burden; several nieces and nephews and dear friend, Debbie Davis as well as special caregivers, MyRa, Monica, Vicki and Hospice of Dayton.
Dick was a graduate of Belmont High School, received his evangelist license in 1984 and enjoyed a long career as a driver for Dempsey Waste Management before retiring in 2009. He founded Bright Morning Star Gospel Ministry, hosted 2 radio broadcasts to share his faith, a member Life Flowing Ministries of Eaton, OH, organized several gospel music events at many local restaurants and churches in the Miami Valley including performances by the Walker Sisters and Jordan River Gospel Band. Dick also ministered to long-term care patients and prisoners and was a successful drag racing driver racing at many local tracks.
He will always be remembered for his favorite quote that was memorialized in a song, "Pray before you do it and God will see you through it."
Family will celebrate Dick's life at a later date with a public memorial at Life Flowing Ministries in Eaton that will be officiated by Pastor Jim Webb.
