Annie Jean Atwood, age 69 of Kettering, passed away Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Hospice of Dayton. She was born May 29, 1950 in Eclectic, Alabama.
She was a 1968 graduate of Roosevelt High School. Annie retired after 35 years of devoted service from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as a Commissary Contract Monitor. Annie lived her life as a fun, free spirited person who adored her family. She loved skating, bowling, and most of all dancing.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine Scroggins; father, James Profitt; and former husband, Amos D. Atwood.
Annie is survived by her loving children, Rodney Atwood and Toni Atwood; grandchildren, Ray Slaughter, Dominique Atwood, Sydney Atwood, Sannaa Atwood and Brittany Rhames; sister-in-law, Cheryl Atwood; special cousin, Shirley Cole-Byrd; close friends, Gwen Burney, Ernestine Hines, and Geneva Hinton; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends; and her home health caregiver, Lashay Dews.
Family will receive friends Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 2:00-3:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd., where a memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Annie's name. Annie's family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Hospice of Dayton, St. Leonard's DayAway and Good Life Home Health Agency for the loving care of their mother. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, cards, and calls at this time of need.
