TAYLOR, Hattie Marie (Northcutt)
Age 87, of Spring Valley, Ohio. Hattie was born May 25, 1932 in Cynthiana, Kentucky and passed away the afternoon of June 29, 2019 at Hospice in Dayton, Ohio.
Hattie graduated from Harrison County High School (KY) in 1951, then earned degrees in Education at Asbury College (KY) and Georgetown College (KY). After teaching for four years in her home state of Kentucky, she moved to Ohio with her husband, Jim - also a teacher - and began teaching at E.G. Shaw Elementary School in Beavercreek, Ohio. She diligently and lovingly taught many young minds until her retirement in 1988.
After retirement, Hattie loved quilting with the ladies at Spring Valley United Methodist Church (OH), where both she and Jim attended and were involved for many years. She also enjoyed helping out with Vacation Bible School and the annual Spring Valley Potato Festival church booth. Reading was always a favorite pastime for her, along with sewing, working jigsaw puzzles, and (more recently) solving Sudoku puzzles. She loved the Lord, her family, her friends, and her students with a warmth you could feel in her beautiful blue eyes.
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Hattie Northcutt; two brothers, Gordon Northcutt and John Northcutt; and a sister, Frances McKinney. She is survived by her loving husband of over 60 years, James W. Taylor, Jr; daughter Mary Jean (Taylor) Patty; one brother, Jesse Northcutt, Jr; one sister, Betty (Lowell) Langefeld; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Hattie will be held at the Spring Valley United Methodist Church, 1 W. Walnut St, Spring Valley, Ohio on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 2:00 pm. An informal luncheon and visitation time will be offered at the church following the service.
Simple flower arrangements welcome, but donations in lieu of this to either Hospice of Dayton or the Spring Valley United Methodist Church are much encouraged.
