Richard L. Brewer

August 15, 1937 — February 16, 2019

On Saturday, February 16, 2019 Richard Brewer, loving husband and father of seven children, woke up in the arms of Jesus at the age of 81.

Richard was born on August 15, 1937 in Bishopville, SC. To Richard Sr. and Katharine Brewer. Raised in Pittsburgh, PA he met and married Shirley Brewer and they raised three sons, Kerey, Keith and Kenneth and two daughters LeSans and Bonita. Richard also has two children from a previous marriage, daughter Darlene and son Richard.

Richard served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1954-1957 and several years after in the Army Reserves. Following his military career he spent 30 years working at United States Steel which eventually became Aristech Chemicals as a plasticizer.

Whether he was Dad, Uncle Buck, Rich or "Pops" he had a knack for making people smile, throwing a great barbecue party or going on a road trip. Nobody loved his Steelers more than him, but long before baseball was cool he enjoyed seeing Willie Stargell and Bobby Bonilla at Three Rivers Stadium. Richard was also a great fan of movies, the more action the better, but what he loved the most was the Lord.

Richard was preceded in death by his father Richard, mother Katharine and sisters Willa Mae and Irene.

Richard is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Kerey, Keith, Kenny and Richard, his daughters LeSans Alexander, Bonita Ashe, Darlene Craig, his brothers Donald Brewer and Calvin Wilder and sister Corinne Wilder. He is also survived and loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren and many friends and church members.

The viewing will be held at Newcomer North Chapel on Thursday, February 28 from 5-7 p.m. at 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, OH 45424. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Cassel Hills Church of Christ, 836 S. Brown School Rd., Vandalia, OH 45377.
