Hester Anna Brown, age 94, of West Carrollton, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 30, 2019.
Hester was born March 6, 1924 in McKee, KY to the late Isam & Bessie (Powell) Smith. Hester was a beautician for 70 years. She owned & operated many shops around the Dayton area including Hester's Beauty Shop, in West Carrollton for 40 plus years. She was a member of Springboro Christian Church for 23 years, where she was baptized into Christ on March 2, 1996. Aside from being a beautician, Hester loved flowers. For many years she planted flowers around the church and won 18 plus Beautification Awards from the City of West Carrollton. August 26, 1997 was proclaimed Hester Brown Day by Maxine Gilman, Mayor of West Carrollton. She was actively involved with the Historical Society of West Carrollton. Hester was well known for her lemon cake and numerous flavored cheesecakes.
She was preceded in death by her 8 siblings, Clayman Smith, Eldon (Ella Mae) Smith, Fairy (Raymond) Leach, Leona (Richard) Stamper, Cash (Ruby) Smith, Christine (Howard & first husband, Bill Browning) Sorah, Glenna (Mic) McMurchy and Burton Smith; and step-son, Kenneth D. Brown.
Hester is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Russell) Humerick; step-son, Gary Brown; sister-in-law, Jean Smith; grandchildren, Billy Brown, Nathan (Mandy) Humerick, Stephanie (Darin) Laymon, Kim (Jimmy) Rose, Eric (Vonetta) Brown, Justin Brown and Jason (Randy) Brown; great-grandchildren, Lori Mertz, Tori (Corey) Whitaker, Tyler Brown, Kailey, Connor, Kyle, Colton and Kaitlyn Humerick, Kayla Rose, Matthew (Candice), Amber and Erin Laymon, Braiden Rose, Katie and L.J. Brown; great-great-grandchildren, Arabella Rose and Aiden Whitaker; numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
A special thank you to the staff at Kingston of Miamisburg for their loving care, where Hester lived the last 3 years of her life.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 6:30-8:00 pm at Newcomer South Kettering Chapel. The service will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Hester will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, West Carrollton, OH.
