Donald G. Benoit, age 92 of Huber Heights, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Soin Medical Center. He was born September 8, 1926 in Newburyport, Massachusetts to the late Wilfred and Ella Benoit.
Donald graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business from the University of New Hampshire and received his Masters from West Virginia University.
Donald served his country with a combined 47 years of government service. He is a veteran of two wars, serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII and USAF during the Korean War. He served in the USAF for 26 years as an enlisted officer and retired as a Lt. Colonel. While in the USAF, he worked as a contracting officer the majority of his career with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and various other government contractors around the world. After retiring from the USAF in 1969, Donald worked as a professor of business logistics management for 21 years at the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at WPAFB and retired as the Dean of the school.
Donald attended St. Peter Parish where he served as a lector. His passion was providing food for those less fortunate at the food pantry at St. Peter's where he worked for over 20 years. Donald's example of giving to those less fortunate was an inspiration to his family. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus, VFW, Military Officer's Association, AARP, National Contract Management Association, National Purchasing Management Association, American Association of University Professors, and was a Professor Emeritus at AFIT.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Julius, Lorrain, Wilfred, Jeannette Perron, Marie Urban and Louis.
Donald will be missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Connie; children, Mary Jane (Steve) Corcoran, Jean Mullen (Todd Mullen-deceased) and Peter (Becky) Benoit; grandchildren, Jennifer Corcoran, Sherry Richards, Patrick Mullen, Francis Mullen, Todd Mullen, Bailey Benoit and Benjamin Benoit; great grandchildren, Ryan Helton, Alex Helton, Matthew Helton and Sophie Richards; and sister, Therese Benoit.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 6161 Chambersburg Rd. Dayton, Rev. Ethan Moore, Celebrant. Burial at Dayton National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Donald's memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
