William "Howard" Arnold, age 97 of Kettering, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born March 27, 1921 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Frank Howard and Garnet M. Arnold.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his son, Danny Arnold; daughter-in-law, Saundra "Pete" Arnold; siblings, Thelma and Cecil and sister-in-law, Ruth.
William is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jean Arnold; children, Sharon "Jo" (Jim) Ingles and Jeff (Pam) Arnold; grandchildren, Tracy (John) Carteaux, Diane (Bob) Gray, Jennifer (Scott) Crist, Erin Arnold, Laura (Adam Dexter) Jones, Alex (Stephanie) Arnold and Kimberly (Matt Trentel) Arnold; great grandchildren, Bethany, Lucas, Kaitlyn, Amanda, Katelynn, Brooklynn, Madelynn, Gage, Gannen, Ruby, Lincoln, Caysen, Baylor and Alayna and sister-in-law, Anna Mundhenk as well as many other extended family members and friends.
Howard was a graduate of Otway High School, Ohio. He honorably served the U.S. Navy during WWII as a carpenters mate 3rd class Seabees. Howard worked his entire career in the construction industry as a self-employed carpenter. He and his son owned and operated Howard Arnold & Son Construction for many years. Howard and his wife were long-time members of Parkview Church of the Nazarene. Woodworking was not only a profession for Howard but a passion that he shared with others through his creations. He will always be remembered as a kind and gentle person that never lost his sense of humor.
Family will receive guests from 1:00-3:00 pm Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering. A funeral ceremony will immediately follow at 3:00 pm on Wednesday also at the funeral home, concluded with military honors. Woodlawn Cemetery, Bowersville will serve as Howard's final resting place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton at 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
