Charles "Chuck" Norman Nickels,78, passed away September 2nd after a brief illness.
Born July 8th, 1940, he was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil & Alice Lou "Louise" Nickels of Kingsport, TN.
Survived by wife of 38 years, Audrey (Slagle) Nickels, son, Jeffrey "Todd" Nickels of Kingsport, TN, daughter, Laura Van Schaack and son-in-law Don of Beavercreek, OH, one sister, Barbara Johnson and brother-in-law, D. Lynn of Kingsport, TN, one grandson, Jacob Nickels of Kingsport, TN, as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, including one foster son, Jerod Osterberg of Fairborn, OH, whom which he maintained a relationship.
He was an active member of Beavercreek Baptist Church in Beavercreek, OH, including serving as trustee, working with children's ministry, a clothing ministry and participating in a mission trip.
At the time of his death, he was employed by Beavercreek City School System as a bus aide, working with special needs preschool children, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Of his other employments, he served in the United States Air Force, retired from Xerox Corporation, worked for Wise, VA Skill Center, and worked for the Virginia Foster Care System.
Of his many hobbies and skills, he enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and cooking, of which he was known for his homemade cheesecakes.
He had a giving and gentle spirit, great sense of humor and an avid storyteller to anyone who would listen. He had a special gift and love for working with children.
He was well loved and will be missed by many.
