Jerry A. Taylor, age 66, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 26 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Tulelake, CA, Jerry grew up in Malin, Oregon.
He had degrees in music from Walla Walla University and Indiana University.
Before coming to Dayton, Jerry was choral director and organ teacher at Ozark Academy in Gentry, AR and Shenandoah Valley Academy in New Market, VA. Jerry was the Director of Worship and Music Emeritus at the Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church after serving there for 28 years, as well as Music Associate at Westminster Presbyterian Church for 30 years.
He has been Pastor for Music and Worship at the Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Church for the past 3 years, where he directed the music program and installed a 61 rank Kilgen Pipe Organ with Walker digital additions. Since 2017, Jerry has been the Dean of the American Guild of Organists, Dayton Chapter.
Throughout his career in Dayton, Jerry worked closely with the music community including the Bach Society of Dayton, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Kettering Children's Choir.
Jerry leaves behind a huge legacy that reaches across the country with an indelible imprint on the lives of his family, friends, students, and the music community.
A funeral is planned for Sept. 9, 4pm at the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Jerry Taylor Memorial Fund at the Westminster Presbyterian Church or the Jerry Taylor Memorial Fund at the Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist Church.
