Virginia R. Mills, age 82 of Beavercreek, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Heartland of Beavercreek after a lengthy illness. She was born June 19, 1936 in Jasper County, Indiana to the late Frank and Martha (Pucka) Pletka.
Virginia worked most of her life at WPAFB in several capacities until she retired from government service in August 1992. Afterwards, she worked several years at the base for a civilian contractor.
She will be missed every day by her family and friends. She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ever have. "Mama" loved all of us and made each of us a better person. She loved life and her family was her biggest joy. She was a great cook, especially baked goods. We all had our favorite dishes which she made for us on holidays and on our birthdays. Virginia's absolute favorite was ice cream, which she thoroughly enjoyed every time she had some.
She enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball on TV. We were fortunate to have had her with us for as long as we did. Even during the last years when her health issues became bad, she still stayed positive. She showed us how to live a good life and she taught us how to love and accept the end in a graceful and positive way.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Mills and brothers, James Pletka, Raymond Pletka, Thomas Pletka, John Pletka, Dennis Pletka and Frank Pletka.
She is survived by her only son, Michael Mills and his wife, Patty; four grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Mary), Kelly (Nate) Fritz, Matthew (Stacey) and Kimberly; sisters, Irene Mitchell and Mary Bowman of Indiana; several great grandchildren, Taylor, Michael III, Emma, MJ, Corey, Chelsey and Joseph and one great-great grandson, Zayden; one special sister-in-law, Becky and her husband, Bo and several nieces and nephews. Also, special friends and caregivers, Marta, Dodi, Sarah and many others.
Family will receive friends Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio. Burial to follow the services at Willow View Cemetery.
