JOHNSON, James David, age 80, of Dayton, OH, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018. He was born in Masontown, PA on May 1, 1937 to the late James K. and Susan F. Johnson. He was raised in the city of Pittsburgh, PA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Susan (Boyer) Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA; his daughters, Beth A. Johnson and Kristie J. Johnson, and the apple of his eye, the past 11 years, his only granddaughter, McKenna.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Mark David Johnson and sister, Susan F. Johnson.
E8 Johnson enlisted in the Army from 1954-1957, then later continued his military career in the USAF. A Vietnam Veteran, he logged thousands of flight hours after the war as an Electronic Tech on the RC135 Aircraft. James (retired) in 1984 from the Air Force at WPAFB. He then entered employment of E-Systems at Offutt AFB, continued more flying on the RC135 Aircraft until retirement in 1997. He had a total of 43 years of service to his country.
He spent many hours deer hunting, also enjoyed golf, tennis, and coaching soccer, and was an avid reader. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
Family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 pm on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 with a service following at 5:00 pm at Newcomer (South Chapel) 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH.
