Harold R. Nestor, age 95, of Dayton, passed away November 18, 2017. He was born on November 1, 1922 in Tucker County, West Virginia to the late Waitman P. & Ova (Loughry) Nestor. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his step-mother, Flossie R. Nestor; siblings, Hazel, Gerald, Mildred, Edward and Kathlene.
He married the love of his life after meeting Ruth Kelly at a skating rink in Springfield, OH. She always said she "skated into his heart" and they were married on August 2, 1951 and she survives him. Harold is also survived by his 2 children, Christine (James) Beaver and Timothy (Peggy) Nestor; grandchildren, James (Jennifer) Beaver, Lindsey (James) Beaver Smith, Betsy (Pete) Beaver Gegick, Jonathan (Traci) Nestor and Charity (Doug) Imfeld; great-grandchildren, Allison & Kate Beaver, Jaden, Lucy & Baby Smith, Lanee & Hadley Imfeld and Elliana Nestor; siblings, Paul (Gloria) Nestor, Dennis (Lila Jo) Nestor, Betty Moran, Ross (Adaline) Nestor, Maxine (Robert) Smith, Darl (Marlene) Nestor and Harry (Nancy) Nestor; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Harold proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. Following his stint in the Army, he worked and retired from N.C.R. after 31 years of service. Harold would then work and retire from Huber Heights Schools as a custodian. He and Ruth were members of the Riverside Seniors. They were faithful members of the Nazarene Church in Dayton and Beavercreek. Harold was a church treasurer, board member and Sunday School teacher. He was Sunday School Teacher of the Year and was awarded, along with his wife, a distinguished service award in 1998.
Harold had a special gift of always being kind and gentle to others. In honor of our dad, please show kindness and gentleness to all.
Family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd.,Dayton, OH. A funeral service will begin at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 22 at Beavercreek Nazarene Church, 1850 N. Fairfield Rd., Beavercreek, OH 45432. Interment will follow the service at Woodland Cemetery (XENIA).
