Shelby Jean Bowman, 78, of Dayton, passed away on February 12, 2017 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born on June 4, 1938 to the late Ralph and Odessa (Lenk) Shank in New Lebanon, OH. Shelby Jean worked for Ohio Bell, Miami Valley Hospital, Kettering Hospital, and Elder Beerman's as a Phone Operator. She was a member of the Eastern Star and St. Peters Lutheran Church. Shelby Jean is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, David Bowman; daughter, Gloria Wojtowicz-Barnett (Leonard); grandchildren, Anthony J. Utz (Danielle Deemer), Angie N. Smith (Phillip), and Nathan A. Coyle; great grandchild, Madison Sienna Smith; cousins, Lucille Arstingstal, Herbert Lenk, Marilyn Smith, Frederick William Lenk, Mary Jo Spitler (Mark), and Martha Miller (Bob), as well as numerous other family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles. Shelby Jean lived a full life. She especially loved spending time with family and friends. She was also completely devoted to her pets. They provided her many years of love and comfort. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45439, with a service following at 11:00am. Burial will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or your local SPCA.
